NCDMB Hosts 500 Niger Delta Science Students On Career Talks
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has embarked on science career talks aimed at filling the skills technical gap in the countryās oil and gas industry through the sensitization of science students in secondary schools across the nine Nigeria Delta states.
About 500 students in the Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) from 200 secondary schools are taking part in the exercise with the theme āBridging The Local Content Gap In Nigeriaās Industrial Sector: Science, Technology and Engineering To The Rescueā.
The grand finale of the science career talks would hold in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
A statement on Wednesday signed by Idowu Adejumo, the Chief Operating Officer of Osk Leverages and Vie Logistique, facilitators of the initiative, said it has been working with the Ministry of Education in Ondo, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Imo, Rivers and Bayelsa states to ensure the active participation of the students.
It noted that the programme has been held in six states of Ondo, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Abia and Imo.
It added that the career talks was being anchored by an experienced facilitator, Victor Ekasa, who is a senior safety engineer with over 15 yearsā experience in the oil and gas sector.
The statement said that students are encouraged to consider careers in sciences, engineering, and technology towards building local capacity and reduce the number of expatriates in the country.
The current management of the NCDMB under the Executive Secretary, Simbi Wabote, is supporting the move to catch the āengineersā young.
Two best participating students in each of the state would be rewarded with a branded mini-laptop as a way of encouraging them.
āThe industrial growth of any nation is anchored on science, engineering and technology and all efforts must be put in place to encourage the new generation to take up the challenge for national growth.
āWe need more Nigerian engineers to man the very technical aspects of oil and gas operations. Nigerians have the capacity to compete favourably and this programme will help us build new set of engineers, scientists and technologists,ā it stated. independentng
