To fight Ebola, Lassa fever ECOWAS to adopt ‘one health’ approach

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set to adopt a “one health” approach to fight infectious diseases like Ebola, Lassa fever, Yellow fever and avian influenza. One health approach involves multi-sector coordination – human, animal and environmental health – in combating epidemics. The approach is promoted by the World Health Organisation (WHO), but it has not been formalised in West Africa.

Los Angeles (AFP) - Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather and mixed martial arts icon Conor McGregor confirmed plans for a long-awaited showdown on Wednesday, triggering both criticism and anticipation for what is set to be one of the richest fights in history. Mayweather and McGregor -- kingpins of their sports -- will climb into a boxing ring to face each other at Las Vegas's T-Mobile Arena on August 26. The 40-year-old Mayweather will be aiming to reach the 50-0 milestone while McGregor is a heavy underdog in the 12-round boxing match. A victory for the Irishman would be a monumental upset.

Bullion van driver, police escort die in accident

A bullion van driver and a police officer lost their lives in an accident in Jos yesterday, when their van collided with a truck loaded with soft drinks. It was gathered that the three other persons, who sustained injuries, were rushed to the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos. The accident, which occurred at 5.30p.m. along the Polo-Gada Biyu route, caused traffic gridlock as fear-stricken motorists and pedestrians scampered for safety with the arrival of fierce-looking security officers to guard the van.

I am sure many Edo indigenes in diaspora even foreigners that are so much interested in investing or want to help grow and stabilize the economy system of Edo state would neither want to be part of such investment nor a part of a system that lacks security, a system where the education is of no importance, a system where the lives of the common man and woman is not a priority to the government.
