HEALTH: Tanzania: Songwe Scans Passengers for Ebola

Songwe International Airport (SIA) in the new Songwe Region has started to test passengers who enter the country through the airport for Ebola under the unit of emergency diseases. The Songwe Regional Health Officer, Mr Peter Alfred, has said that several health officers from the Regional Unit of Emergency Diseases have camped at the airport to test and unveil the passengers with Ebola symptoms.

Two clinical trials show promise with different targeted drugs for lung cancer

Lung cancer cell Two drugs targeting different gene faults in lung cancer have shown potential to be better than those already available, according to unpublished clinical trials. The drug alectinib (Alecensa), which targets a faulty version of the ALK gene, halted the growth of non-small cell lung cancers for 15 months longer than the standard treatment, a drug called crizotinib (Xalkori).
