Ambode launches free public WiFi in Lagos

The Lagos State government yesterday launched free public Wi-Fi at parks and gardens in its resolve to achieve its smart mega city status. Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode said the provision of the free Wi-Fi was part of his administration’s effort to make the state work for all and sundry.

Apple's iPhone Is Losing Ground in China!

The growing dominance of these three Chinese companies should be a cause of worry for Apple Apple 's ( NASDAQ:AAPL ) sales in China took a massive beating last year, dropping an estimated 23%, which pushed its market share into the single digits, per research from IDC. Now, the latest sales data from the Middle Kingdom indicates that local smartphone players have continued gaining on the iPhone maker. Apple isn't going anywhere in China Market research firm Canalys estimates that Chinese smartphone sales jumped 9% during the first quarter of 2017, but most of the gains were lapped up by just three companies. As it turns out, Huawei , OPPO , and Vivo took the top three spots, accounting for 50% of sales, up from a combined market share of 42% in the prior-year period.

Lagos Earmarks N12. 6bn for Sports Facilities, Development

The Lagos State Government has earmarked N12.6 billion for construction and rehabilitation of sports facilities and development this year.  Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports and Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu disclosed the huge fund earmarked by the State Government yesterday at the ongoing ministerial press briefing at Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

Apple  is  investing $200 million  in a Kentucky manufacturing plant run by  Corning , the company that makes Gorilla Glass — found on every iPhone and iPad on the planet. It’s Apple’s first investment from the newly-formed Advanced Manufacturing Fund. The company says it plans to invest at least $1 billion in American manufacturing firms.

WHO Confirms a Small Ebola Outbreak in Congo

Ebola has killed at least one person in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the World Health Organisation confirmed Friday at least one person had tested positive for the deadly virus. WHO said it was sending the team to the remote area in the north of the country near the border with Central African Republic. And a large vaccine nonprofit said it was ready to bring in Ebola vaccines if needed.
