The United Arab Emirates Police have explained why popular Nigerian celebrity, Hushpuppi, was arrested in Dubai on June 10, 2020.
It was reported few days ago that he was arrested on multiple fraud charges along with 12 other accomplices by one of UAE’s online newspaper, The National.
His real birth name was also revealed to be Raymond Abbas alongside his age being 38 years according to the paper. He is currently being questioned by the prosecutors at the Bur Dubai section, Dubai Public Prosecution.
Raymond Abba a.k.a Hushpuppi and 12 others were arrested by security officers in United Arab Emirate and not Interpol according to The National.
He was charged for “Obtaining money from others through fraudulent means,” by the prosecutors, the paper said.
“They would send out letters from email addresses almost identical to those of legitimate companies targeting customers of these companies with the purpose of diverting payments to themselves,” said a senior prosecutor quoted by the paper.
“Initial information includes that he was part of this gang which fraudulently obtained cash and cars from people.
The paper also reported that Hushpuppi is wanted for fraud crimes in Europe, the United States and Nigeria.
