SPORTS: Nigerian Football Federation scores US$4 million deal with Coca-Cola

THE Carbonated Drink giant Turns Out official sponsor of Nigeria’s National Soccer Team.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), the governing body for soccer in Nigeria, has announced a partnership with Coca-Cola.

Under the terms of the deal, the beverage company will be the official soft drink and co-sponsor of Nigeria’s national soccer teams.

The initial agreement will run for five years and is worth a total of US$4 million.

Coca-Cola has a longstanding corporate partnership with Fifa, soccer’s global governing body, which first began in 1974. The soft drinks manufacturer will also serve as an official global partner of the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia this summer, where Nigeria have been placed in a group with Argentina, Iceland, Croatia.  

Cletus Onyebuoha, head of strategic marketing at Coca-Cola’s West Africa Business Unit, said: “This sponsorship of the Nigeria national teams is a further demonstration of Coca-Cola’s commitment to football in Nigeria at all levels and our support for communities where we operate.”

Meanwhile, UK-based sports marketing agency CSM Sport & Entertainment has partnered with John Mikel Obi, the captain of the Nigerian men’s national soccer team. The agency will manage the 30-year-old’s commercial interests and provide communications support in both on and off-field activities.

Mikel, who currently plays for Chinese Super League team Tianjin Teda following a decade at English Premier League club Chelsea, will appear at his second successive Fifa World Cup when he leads out his country in Russia.  sportspromedia
