LASG SET TO BOOST FOOD SUSTAINABILITY
The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to boost food security with the introduction of programmes in vegetable, poultry, cassava and fish farming and in other forms of agro-processing programmes designed for the youths.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Food Security, Mr. Ganiu Sani Okanlawon who made this known in Lagos recently said that the government has provided a conducive atmosphere for investment opportunities in the various value-chains of Agriculture and also expose farmers to modern technology/innovation in order to enhance food security and job creation.
He said the State government has identified the huge potentials in increased food production and has initiated more developmental projects that will encourage families to build and operate small farms in their residential areas to supplement their family income as well as provide basic protein needs of the family.
While calling on stakeholders and investors, especially those in the private sector, to join hands with the government to boost food security, Sanni stressed that food production is one of the government’s strategies for tackling the issue of unemployment and encourage youth empowerment.
He maintained that the commitment of the present administration towards the attainment of food security depends largely on the cooperation of every Lagos residents, adding that food security and hygienic environment occupies the front burner in the scheme of things as a way to facilitate job and wealth creation.
