Santa Claus may be more digitally-savvy than you think. He can text, Snapchat, email and he even wears a GPS tracker on Christmas Eve so you can follow his journey around the world from the comfort of your own home.
Here are 10 ways to digitally contact or track Santa this holiday season:
1. Email Santa.
Send an email to Santa and he’ll reply almost instantaneously in most cases. Some sites offer customized email — allowing you to choose your own stamps and stickers to include. Others offer templates that allow you to fill in names and words to get your message to St. Nick. Here are a few sites to choose from:www.emailsanta.com, www.santaclausoffice.com, www.elfhq.com, www.aletter4santa.com.
2. Track Santa’s journey around the world virtually.
One of the most popular Santa trackers is NORAD Santa Tracker, www.noradsanta.org, which gives you an awesome 3-D view of the world and Santa’s sleigh and reindeer flying above. Starting Christmas Eve, you’ll be able to see where he’s at in the world at any given time. Until then, you can explore Santa’s Village at the North Pole and see what Santa’s doing.
You can also download the NORAD Santa Tracker for free on your smartphone or tablet, which also offers other activities and music for kids, too.
Not trailing far behind in popularity is Google Santa Tracker, santatracker.google.com, which also provides activities and games for children on its site until the tracker is launched on Christmas Eve.
3. Video chat/video call with Santa.
You can Skype Santa using www.santashangout.com. Download the Skype app on your smartphone or tablet and then pick a time on the calendar you want Santa to Skype you. The call will last anywhere between three and five minutes.
Another option is www.videochatwithsanta.com. No need to download any video chatting software for this site, just go to the website, sign-up and schedule an appointment. The call will last about five minutes and costs $15 per child.
There are also apps you can download to video chat with Santa. One app with the best ratings is called Video Call Santa, free in the iTunes store, that simulates video chat calls with Santa.
You can call Santa right away or set up a time you want to receive a call from him. Santa will ask a series of questions, including “Have you been naughty or nice?” and “What do you want for Christmas?” Each call is video-recorded and will save to the phone’s camera roll and shareable via social media. Each call is personalized to each child.
4. Find out if you’re on the naughty or nice list.
You can use www.claus.com, and enter your full name to find out if you’re on the naughty or nice list. At www.emailsanta.com also offers a “naughty or nice determinator,” which allows you to enter a bit of information before you’re placed on either list.
There’s also an app downloadable on the iPhone that is called Santa’s Naughty or Nice List Finger. It’s a funny finger scanner, free in the iTunes store, which allows you to put your finger on the home button and the app will determine if you’re on the naughty or nice list.
5. Get a text from Santa.
Go to www.textsanta.net and enter a little bit of information about you and your child and you’ll be able to get a personalized text message from Santa. There are two packages: a quick text, $4.79, and the gold package, a sequence of three personalized messages from Santa, $6.59. The sequence of messages seems to come from Santa. You can choose the date and time the messages are sent. Standard text rates apply.
If you want to be able to text Santa, download the Message from Santa phone, call, voicemail and text app on your Android phone. Santa can address up to eight people in one call and kids are able to text Santa their Christmas wishes.
